Fall 2023: Letting Go

Embodied Stitching is a term I coined to explain a deeper, more contemplative way of making that cultivates greater awareness of the self and others. It follows a process of grounding and short guided-mindfulness practice, anchored to an intuitive prompt. This flows into a free-writing process, which is then translated into a stitched form. The stitched form becomes the archive of the process. Finally, participants have the opportunity to share: whether that be the story they have unearthed, how they found the process, and/or anything else that came up for them. It provides opportunities to learn and unlearn ways of interacting with the materials as well as oneself.

During a Fall ceremony in 2023, centred around the theme of "letting go”, the group took the practice a step further and buried their creation in the Earth, offering it back and letting go of attachment to stories and the product of making.
